Self Acceptance Quotes

These self acceptance quotes can be very helpful when you are feeling pressured to conform to other’s beliefs.  Read these and feel inspired to be yourself at all times.

“Enjoy your body. Use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it or what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you will ever own.” Mary Schmich

“Whatever you are doing, love yourself for doing it. Whatever you are feeling, love yourself for feeling it.” Thaddeus Golas

“The reward for conformity is that everyone likes you but yourself. “ Rita Mae Brown

“He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away.” Raymond Hull

"All your life you are told the things you cannot do. All your life they will say you're not good enough or strong enough or talented enough; they will say you're the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or be this or achieve this. THEY WILL TELL YOU NO, a thousand times no, until all the no's become meaningless. All your life they will tell you no, quite firmly and very quickly.
AND YOU WILL TELL THEM YES."

We’re living in a society where too often people give up who they are because of what others say or do.  They often go so far as to ignore the way they feel about a subject.  Instead, they give in without any thought at all.  They change their appearance, the way they talk, and even their lifestyle and beliefs just to fit in.

What happens when this occurs?  Well, every time you go against what you truly believe you lose a part of yourself.  You’ll know when this occurs because your body will tell you.  You’ll feel a slight discomfort in your gut.  That’s your body telling you that this is not what you really want or that you are in disagreement.

I know I’ve been guilty of ignoring my feelings and beliefs in the past.  Looking back on those days, I can say that I felt like a ping pong ball flying and bouncing in every direction imaginable.  So confusing were those days.  I felt so lost and the emptiness I felt was at times overwhelming.

I realized that trying to change myself into what everyone expected of me was satisfying them but destroying me.  So instead of trying to conform to society I chose to embrace every bit of myself, good and bad, and use it to my advantage.  Not to say that they didn’t have my best interest in mind, but no one really knows you better than yourself and God.

Deep down inside you know what you really want but are just ignoring it.  Start to explore how you truly feel about a subject and don’t be afraid to do what’s best for you.  You can listen to advice but at the end of the day what you truly believe is what should count.

In the July 2007 issue of O, Oprah Magazine, Martha Beck revealed one word you can say when you are worried about what someone might say or do.  That word is “So?.”

In other words, when thoughts like, “What if they don’t like me.”
They’re laughing at me.”  Or “They may not agree with me.” come to mind, just say “So?”

I tried this method and I have to say it really works.  You can try it too.

At the end of the day, you can’t expect everyone to like you and agree with your ideas.  And the world is filled with ignorant people who have nothing better to do except try to make others feel bad about themselves.

Don’t let what other people think prevent you from expressing your uniqueness and being all you can be.  Let your light shine.

Affirmation
By looking deep inside and asking God for guidance I can find out what I truly want and act accordingly.  I can stand up for what I believe in.
